Covid-19 has made many changes to how we live our daily lives. The one area that has been changed almost completely is schooling. When it comes to schools and learning I don’t see any way that it will ever totally go back to normal, the idea of distance learning and blended learning for students has become somewhat of a norm in these times, which in some ways is a good thing. In the fall, at least for most universities, I feel that schools will try to limit face to face classes as much as possible, but, as a student whose plan was to be in a school placement in the fall, I am hoping there will be at least some in-person classes so that I can complete what I need to.
The goal that I see is that within the year everything will be back to normal and we can all go on how we used to, but if we have to think rationally that is a very slim outcome. As I had said earlier the most likely outcome is a sort of blended learning environment, where maybe students do not come to school every day and instead they only come three days a week and then do some other classes online like we are doing now. Five years is a long time, and a lot can change. I believe more blended and online learning is something to be expected in the future of schools.

This is a great post that is full of insightful comments! I couldn’t agree more that our world has been completely flipped on its head. If you would have told me we would be in this situation even three months ago, I would have thought you were crazy. But here we are in our new “normal.” I also agree that getting back to our normal education in the fall is going to be challenging. As I have commented on other posts, I don’t think we can really win with any decision we make. If we send our kids back to school, we could risk further spread of the virus, but if we continue online learning, many kids may fall behind. It will also be difficult to find a happy medium between the two. I guess we just have to wait and see what the situation looks like when that time comes. Now jumping to your thoughts about 2025, I know that is still pretty far away from now, but do you think our situation now will have an effect on education that far into the future? I touched on this subject in my own post as well. Do you think we will see a greater use of technology then because of the challenges we are facing today? Or do you think we will still be picking up the pieces that COVID-19 left behind?

I agree that in 5 years time that there will be lots of blended learning with using technology. I hope for your field placement that there will be face to face learning, as I found this to be the most reward part of University.
